Included on this page are examples of the various media and styles with which I create and concretize my ideas. There is no “obvious” style to my work as far as I am aware. I see it more as an alchemical process, in fact the life-blood of my work is drawing. I still recall the exhilaration I felt after completing one of my first recognizable drawings as a toddler. My vast collection of “stuff” informs my assemblage, installation, collage, etc. I have a passion for studying symbols and archetypes in many forms which is the underlying meaning for all of my creative work. One theme that runs through my thoughts while doing art is the idea of relationship, be it between objects, colors, subject matter or anything else that I connect while deciding what to add to my imagery. I am fascinated with the phenomenon of synchronicity, seeing relationships between so-called “reality” and the collective unconscious. I suppose this does give a lot of my artwork a surreal quality yet I don’t fit solely into the category of surrealist.
Recently I was introduced to a theory about two distinct types of memory in the human brain. While reading about “Aphantasia” (almost a total lack of memories) I found that I am what is called “Hyperphantasia” - having great detail in recalling past details- as apposed to “Aphantasia”. My own recollection informs a lot of my artwork. I consider myself a painter, but my use of different materials comes from the memories each different object brings. I have produced multiple fabric pieces over the years, including close to fifty pieces of clothing for a wedding, including the wedding dress which, later was the last entry in a staged fashion show at the Bluebird Theater in Denver. I later created a wedding dress made entirely of vintage aprons…these are examples of my love for fabric. Currently my family owns a building where we rent studio space to artists for as little rent as possible to keep the building functional and allow other artists access to spaces. When there is space, I work there, but I also work anywhere I happen to be.
